Definitely Needed

I believe that a Black Television News Channel is definitely needed. However what concerns me is if this channel will just be European perspective news in black face. If that's the case, please don't waste people's time or money.
So in light of the criticism, I would like to make some positive suggestions about what type of news you could put on your channel that would truly reflect the perspective of black people nationally and more importantly internationally. Hire Foreign Correspondents in places like the West Indies, South America, Central America, Africa and South Asia who are Black and from those areas. Start serious talk about news stories that are important to African-Americans. A for example, serious coverage needs to be given to the upcoming presidential election from OUR view. There should also be at least a daily coverage of what's going on in the House and Senate. Most importantly HIRE BLACK WRITERS!!!!
I'd like to make comments to the white gentleman who feels that it's alright to make a remark about the White News Channel and the Black News Channel. That logic is very elementary. Fox is biased, CNN is biased, yet I don't hear you making any critical comments about their conservative or liberal bias. Both stations rarely show anything other than news stories from their particular perspectives and only having the black perspective on every once in a while and only what they want the black perspective to be.
Basically, its a moot point now. We're having our own station regardless if you like it or not. Its not your business. Keep watching Fox News.

i think this is an awesome

i think this is an awesome venture. on the matter of self-segregation, i propose that those outlets regarded as mainstream not be mistaken for race/gender/class/[insert additional 'classification' here]-neutral, melting pots. we've come a long way, no doubt, and this will indeed move us along further. what needs have not been met or what issues have not been adequately handled by those 24-hr nets already in existence, will HOPEFULLY appear here. lovely.

Why what for

I dont understand society today if the civil rights movement stopped segregation then why do we keep moving back into it. I feel as if this is a complete racial segregation. The only news that will be on there will be what the black community wants its own people to hear. It wont be a fair and balanced news. If we created a white news network wouldn't it sound like only whites could watch it? I strongly believe that there would be a major up roar about having a white news network that was titled "White News" But for some reason its ok for blacks to do this with out anyone getting mad. I just honestly think this is plan out fucking bulshit. Oh yeah and I am white but i guess you probably figured that out.

BTNC a Needed Perspective in Media

We should never depend on others such as CNN, FOX, CBS, etc., to qualify the struggles of our society. The NEWS as we know it, is drastically different when others are reporting it. If BTNC is to survive and grow its foundation has to be those empowered economically to sustain it. If sponsorship isn’t prepared to go the distance then this will be yet another goodwill project that couldn’t last.
Never forget the "No Urban Mandate".
Although I agree with the frustration of millions of people when it comes to BET and the void it has created, I understand BET is Black Entertainment Television and not BIT, Black Informative Television. I hope BTNC will be the latter for everyone to really understand the dynamic of “Information Is Power”.
Good Luck and prosper!

Thank You

Absolutely. I am very proud to be apart of this historical moment. This is long overdue. Thanks for a positive venue for black expression. God Bless!

Our won Black 24 hour news station, WOW, YES!

I am soooo ready for this station. Just think 24 hours of non stop Black news about not only White America but Black America from a "different" perspective. As much as CNN, ABC, CBS and the others think they are presenting a non-bias report well it isn't always the case. I look forward to a station presenting views from ALL perspectives.

Necessity of black news.

Wow! Its amazing to me that 10% of the votes in your poll feel that the African American community doesn't need it's own news channel. But back on the positive, I am really excited about this project which is long overdue and sorely needed. Hats off to Chairman Watts for this bold move. I live in NYC, I hope I will be able to have access.

yes its about time

yes its about time

Internation al news

I just pray that it will will be well rounded, with a strong internation news. We need to know more about what is going on in Africa, Asia and Europe. Also we rarely hear about the increase murder rates in some of our major cities i.e. chicago, Washington, and Philly, just to mention a few.

Race relations is fine and well, but We "Black Folk" are killing eachother and this need to be reported.

Peace
Chigjuan

Yeah, if its going to be

Yeah, if its going to be wall-to-wall coverage of what Sharpton or a few others in the movement think, they might as well not bother.

In one respect, African-Americans are just like whites: there's criminals, crooks, and corruption.

We don't need a black news channel to go out and protest throwing a black CRIMINAL in jail. If someone is getting a raw deal from the system, that's another thing. But it seems like too often we get community members rushing out to defend gang members or other violent criminals who are guilty.

Rich neighborhoods get more police protection than black neighborhoods. If the police actually catch and convict a criminal from my neighborhood, I want that criminal locked up for a long time.

If a BTNC crew shows up to cover his sentencing, it better be to celebrate getting a crook off the street and not to protest sending someone who is guilty to jail.

BTNC Quality Media

Absolutely! BET has betrayed the faith put in it and now even turns our college young people into cursing low class bafoons. We must get serious about our situation and shine a light on all of it so that our children know how hard it was for us to to get them where they are now. It is their responsibility to take it further, not push it back. I will be watching!! Don't let us down because I will let you know.
